What a dripping tap costs in a year

We measured one for a week. It came to more than the washer that fixes it.

Brass shower riser and rose on a plastered wall

We put a measuring jug under a customer's dripping basin tap for a week, with her permission and some amusement.

The numbers

It filled just under a gallon a day. That is about 340 gallons a year from one tap, and on a hot tap you pay to heat it as well.

The fix

A washer or a cartridge, depending on the tap. Either costs a few dollars and takes twenty minutes. The visit is the expensive part, so save up two or three small jobs and have them done together.
