Cast-iron bath, replumbed

The original bath stayed. Its lead waste and both supplies did not.

Service

The owners wanted to keep the bath their house came with. It weighs about as much as a piano and had been sitting on a lead waste since before the war.

What we did

We lifted the bath onto blocks, cut out the lead back to the stack and ran a new waste with a trap you can actually reach. Both supplies were replaced from the basement up, and the floor-standing tap went in last.

  • Lead waste removed back to the cast-iron stack

  • New supplies with shut-offs in the basement ceiling

  • Bath re-levelled on its original feet

Two days. The bath never left the room.
